With longer days and warmer evenings, we have planned relaxing family times in our own garden and the occasional evening spent outside The George and Dragon or in the back seating area of The Bottle Bank, enjoying something refreshing.I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our Ward Councillor, Les Gilbert, on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023. I had the opportunity to work alongside him during my time as a Parish Councillor, and he consistently worked hard for the benefit of our community. He was never afraid to challenge Cheshire East when necessary.Councillor Gilbert served as a Cheshire East Councillor from 2008 until his passing in 2023. He was also a member of our Parish Council from 2009 to 2011. Les was actively involved in the Village Volunteers, dedicating countless hours to keeping the village looking its best for the benefit of all residents.Working with Cllr Gilbert was a great experience. He displayed kindness, compassion, consideration, and diligence in everything he did, and he was always willing to listen.Along with the Parish Council, I extend our deepest condolences to his partner and all his family. He will be greatly missed, and may he rest in peace.74 Wheelock Street, Middlewich, CW10 9ABenquiries@blainboland.co.uk01606 834824Legal experts based in theheart of MiddlewichBuying & Selling HousesEmployment Law · Will WritingProbate · Intestacy MattersLasting Powers of AttorneyCommercial PropertyBusiness InsightsScan to Listen & Subscribearchpublications.com/podcast

We’re proud that we’ve won a total of eight totems from this Best Kept Station competition since we started work in 2012. Second, it was good to see the majority of our active members at the station on Monday 8th May. This was part of the Big Help Out on the last day of the Coronation weekend. We took the opportunity to move daffodils from some of the platform tubs and to replace them with colourful pansies. The bulbs have been replanted under the hedge beside Station Road. We hope that next spring, passing motorists, cyclists and walkers will enjoy the display of flowers. The third piece of news is the result of an unexpected opportunity. Jools Townsend, CEO of Community Rail, and Adam Cottam, Director of Photography at Middle Table, came to Goostrey station to make a short film which will be used to launch the World Cup of Stations 2023. The Rail Delivery Group wants to crown UK’s Best Loved Station and to shine a spotlight on the work of dedicated volunteers. We are thrilled to be one of three stations featured - and the only one from England! We were delighted that eleven children from Goostrey Community Primary School came to the station after the end of lessons to be filmed with the bug hotels. Jools Townsend really enjoyed the event. Later that day she wrote this on her Twitter account : A fantastic day visiting @GoostreyRail in Cheshire finding out about their achievements rejuvenating their historic station, caring for nature and bringing the community together through art - a privilege to meet the passionate volunteers behind it all!News from Goostrey Art Studio? At last the Platinum Jubilee Plaque is in place! To celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70 year reign, Debbie Goldsmith led a project to create a lasting memorial of this historic event. She worked with children and teachers from Goostrey Community Primary School and Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School to create decorated clay tiles. Tracey Cartlege from the Manchester Clay Studio brought them together into a stunning circular design. And now rail workers have secured it to a wall outside the shelter on platform two so we can all enjoy the colours, shapes and words. In addition, inside the shelter, there’s an exhibition with photos showing how the plaque was created. But Debbie is a talented artist and it’s important that she displays her own work. ‘Mostly Sunny’ is an exhibition of her new paintings at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester. It’s open daily 10am - 10pm from 1st June until 25th July and she’s encouraging us all to visit.Debbie continues to be busy organising workshops for local residents of all ages through Goostrey Art Studio. A recent success was the Big Help Out on May 8th when over 60 clay tiles were decorated with letter shapes and natural materials to celebrate the coronation of King Charles 111. They will be finished in the kilns at the Clay Studio and then Friends of Goostrey Station will help to install them in the gardens around Goostrey Station.Friends of Goostrey Stationfriendsofgoostreystation.org Friends of Goostrey Station...

To a very rare 100% gluten free deli and cafe. It was amazing and so worth the 20min drive. As we checked over the cakes on the counter before taking a seat, I showed her the chalk board sign “Everything is Gluten Free”. Her eyes lit up as she took it in. My daughter loved the fact she could order anything on the menu and anything off the counter. It gave her the freedom that being gluten free steals on a daily basis. The menu is great and you can buy things to take home too as it’s also a deli. Breakfast is served all day and includes really interesting items like eggy bread and pancakes. There is a pastry section with a cheese and onion pie or one of their daily special pastries served with chips and baked beans/salad. A whole selection of sandwich fillings which can be in bread, a bagel, toast or as a salad. The Children’s menu is actually amazing too. Giving both hot and cold options. The prices for all items are very reasonable especially the fact that it’s all Gluten free which is always priced higher than “muggle food” which is what some Gluten Free people call normal food for fun.My daughter struggled to choose as there was so much she fancied. Finally she went for Hot Chick Bagel which was overspilling with fresh chicken smothered in a lemon drop chilli mayo. I ordered potato cake stack with ham, cheese and jalapeño. We shared the meals so we could both try each other’s. My daughter really enjoyed the bagel but especially liked the potato cake, so much so, she said she wants to order that next time we visit. For dessert we went to have a look at the cakes again. My daughter chose a slice of chocolate biscuit cake which was a rich mouse with chunks of biscuit in. The owner was really friendly and chatty. Our whole visit was really enjoyable and we would love to visit again soon. If you cant get to Altrincham they offer delivery to Manchester and Cheshire. JB3100GA/A001Financial matters...IT can feel like a loaded question, but asking yourself whether you have the right personal protection in place is a question that every adult ought to ask themselves. If the answer turns out to be, “Yep, I’m all covered!”, that’s brilliant. But unless you stop to ask yourself a few big questions (and find out what products are out there), you’ll never know. And whatever you think you know, the answer may well surprise you.Personal protection refers to a range of insurance products that are designed to provide you with financial protection if life throws you a curveball. While there are a wide range of personal protection products, the three types we’ll cover here are; Life insurance, Income protection, and Critical illness coverIt’s worth noting here that not everyone needs these insurance products. For example, your employer may provide you with adequate coverage should you die or become ill and unable to work. However, don’t assume that just because you’re employed, you might not opt for protection products like these. You may find that you don’t yet have the level of protection in place that you would prefer to have.Life insurance (sometimes called life cover or life assurance) is a policy that gives your family financial protection should you pass away. This protection comes in the form of a lump sum of money that your loved ones receive after you die. The size of the sum depends on the level of cover you choose and typically goes towards maintaining living standards, like covering monthly bills. If you’re employed, your employer may provide you with adequate life cover through work. Death in service benefit, for example, pays out a tax-free lump-sum to your family typically worth 2 to 4 times your annual salary.Depending on your family’s circumstances, that amount might be plenty. You may feel that paying additional monthly premiums for a life insurance policy is unnecessary. However, it is well worth considering whether coverage through your workplace is suitable. For some people, investing in a life insurance policy in addition to benefiting from workplace life coverage or death in service benefit is the right call. This strategy might even bring down the cost of cover, because you’d require less of it.As we mentioned up top, life insurance policies are not necessarily for everyone. But if you’re self-employed, have a mortgage, or have a partner and/or dependant(s) that rely at least in part on your income, the right kind of life cover is seriously worth considering. There are also personal protection products that provide financial support if you were to become ill or unable to work. Income protection and critical illness cover are different products that can help you and your family weather life’s proverbial storms; but how do you know if they’re right for you?Income protection is a long-term insurance policy that provides you with a monthly income if you can’t work due to illness or injury. Designed to allow you to maintain your lifestyle while you are unable to work, income protection pays a proportion of your income each month. Critical illness cover functions in a similar way, except you receive financial support in a single tax-free lump-sum. The policy will cover you only if you’re diagnosed with a condition from specific list of serious, potentially life-threatening illnesses (e.g. cancer, a heart attack and motor neurone disease). While income protection and critical illness cover work well for some people, like all financial products they’re not necessarily for everyone. If you are now asking yourself the question, “am I protected?”. It might be time to talk to a financial advisor.HW Independent Financial Management

A few months ago the u3a Local History Group obtained the 1921 census results for the Parish of Holmes Chapel and Cotton. Each property completed a form on Sunday 24th April 1921 listing all the people in residence with their ages, marital status, what their occupation was and where they worked. The full analysis is going to take some time and members are just beginning to discover the story of the village in 1921.We can answer questions about how the village has changed since the previous census in 1911 which was before the First World War. Had the population increased? Had WW1 affected the balance of men and women in the village? What had happened to the many men who went to war and survived? Some of these questions will take a while to research but already interesting information is beginning to emerge. We now know the population of the village increased from 906 in 1911 to 991 in 1921. There were 51% male and 49% femalein 1911 but in 1921 there were 47% male and 53% female. Could this be a consequence of the war or just a natural variation? There is more work to do on this.We can find out what the popular Christian names were in 1921 in the village. For the men John and Thomas top the list and for the ladies, Mary and Ann. Amongst the unusual names were Horatio, Uriah and Eli for the men and Olive, Esther and Agnes for the ladies.Another interesting area to explore is the world of employment. In 1911 the village was dominated by farming although the railway line was bringing some work and there were quite a few involved in house building. By 1921 the opening of the Holmes Chapel Wallpaper Works had created new opportunities for employment and of the 382 Holmes Chapel people employed, nearly 25% were working at Victoria Mills. Others were working for Brunner Mond at Middlewich and Northwich and 16 were employed by the railway company. We can also look at how settled the population was by comparing who was living in the village in 1911 and still here in 1921. This is only a rough guide as we will not spot women who have married and still living in the village. However, we find 376, or 41% are still in the village and there have been 194 children born over the ten years. It is known that quite a few families moved to the village from Manchester to work at the wallpaper factory which helps to explain the increased population. The history group will be using other sources of information to explore in more detail some of these topics in order to build up a picture of life in Holmes Chapel during the 1920s. They are making great progress on the project. 1,700 homes are already able to be connected in Brereton and Holmes Chapel and 80% of Goostrey, Allostock and Cranage has been built, with a completion date of late summer/early autumn. In order for them to build the network and provide the high-speed broadband that we need, unfortunately necessary work has had to be carried out. Even though they try to use existing infrastructure like poles or dig underground, they have had to in certain instances erect some new poles or close some roads. They have aimed to keep any disruption to a minimum but apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience during this time. What ultrafast fibre broadband means is that instead of fibre cables just going to the green cabinet you see on the sides of roads and copper cable then going to your property, the fibre cable is run from your local exchange direct to your premises. This means that your broadband speed will be a lot quicker and more reliable than it is now (up to 900Mbps download), something I think you would agree that we need in this day and age of everything being online. You will be able to stream your favourite shows, game, video call friends and family and shop online. Also with so many of us now working from home, everything will be so much easier - joining meetings online without losing connection and downloading and uploading files quickly, without having to keep travelling to the office to work productively. So I think you’ll agree that the disruption that we have had to our community will be worth it for faster, more reliable broadband. You can check availability for your property via Airband’s postcode checker at www.airband.co.uk where you can also register for regular updates. Ka PieNEW Zealand, with its remarkable offerings of Rugby, wine, stunning landscapes, and the iconic Lord of the Rings film sets, also holds a surprising treasure close to its heart—the humble meat pie. Since the early days of British settlers in 1863, this savoury delight has become deeply ingrained in New Zealand’s culinary heritage, consistently earning the title of the nation’s favourite comfort food. In the charming village of Holmes Chapel, Kiwi Hayden Parsons found himself longing for the taste of home. Fuelled by nostalgia, he took it upon himself to bring the essence of New Zealand to his new community. Thus, Ka Pie was born—an endeavour that would fill the air with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked pies. Every week, Hayden tantalizes taste buds with an array of flavours that cater to every pie lover’s palate. From classic Lamb with mint gravy to the bold combination of taco mince and cheese or the indulgent creaminess of peppered steak, his creations offer a symphony of savoury satisfaction. Vegetarians and those seeking a touch of sweetness are also treated to a diverse selection. Operating from a five-star hygiene kitchen, Hayden creates a limited number of these delectable pies. Demand is high, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. The secret to securing your slice of pie heaven lies in swift ordering on his Facebook page. The reward, however, is well worth the effort. With orders pouring in, Hayden meticulously orchestrates the collection process, ensuring that every pie enthusiast can relish their eagerly awaited bounty. And a few days later, the moment arrives—an opportunity to savour a freshly baked pie at home, its golden crust whispering promises of pure delight. Hayden’s dedication to Ka Pie is a testament to his devotion as both a family man and a culinary virtuoso. With experience in the hospitality industry, he has honed his skills in kitchens both in his home country and in his new village. Since the inception of Ka Pie, Hayden has garnered a devoted following, myself included. Pie enthusiasts from far and wide embark on a weekly pilgrimage to experience the magic of his creations. This recognition culminated in his recent triumph, earning him the distinguished title of “The Knutsford Guardian Best Pies for 2023.” Within the realm of flaky crusts and mouth-watering fillings, Hayden has carved out a remarkable niche. His passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the craft have elevated him to the ranks of culinary greatness. Yet, he remains a humble artisan, infusing every creation with his heart and soul. So, as you embark on your own journey to savour the perfection that is Ka Pie, remember the man behind it all—a devoted family man, a flavour ambassador, and a guardian of tradition. Each bite is an invitation to join the ranks of those captivated by the magic of Hayden’s pies. Let your taste buds revel in the exquisite blend of flavours, and become part of the legacy—an ode to the power of a humble pie in forging connections and bringing joy, one delectable mouthful at a time.Katy

30Eco dates for your diary...I decided to base this month’s article around the ‘notable calendar days’ in June and how they can provide a good reason to make a few changes to our daily lives throughout the month to live a little more sustainably.Saturday 3rd June – World Bicycle DayFirst observed in 2018, World Bicycle Day celebrates the bicycle as a simple, affordable, reliable, healthy and environmentally sustainable way to get around. Why not dust down your bike and get out on one of the short leisure routes suggested by Holmes Chapel Partnership (www.hcpartnership.org.uk) or jump on your bike to pop into the village instead of getting in the car (there are bike racks by the library and on The Square). Holmes Chapel also has an active cycling club – HC Velo – for those wanting to enjoy longer rides as part of a group, and if your bike needs a check over then the lovely Khaled of Holmes Chape Bikes on Chester Road can help!Monday 5th June – World Environment DayThe purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the environment and how to protect the planet. This year the focus will be on plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPolution. Clearly this is a topic close to my heart! Did you know that more than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced each year, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10% is actually recycled. You can make a difference by swapping single use plastic options for refillable options whether that be for your household and personal care products with me at www.fillarup.co.uk, getting your milk delivered in reusable glass bottles from our local dairy farmers or just generally being more mindful about choosing the plastic-free options when shopping.Sunday 18th June – Father’s DayThose plastic wraps that go around cards which are immediately ripped off and thrown in the bin are easily avoided and luckily the choice of non-wrapped cards seems to be getting bigger! Even better, how about getting the kids to make a card at home – probably means more to Dad, costs less and makes use of stuff you already have.I could go on and on as it seems like pretty much every day is a ‘something notable day’…Thursday 15th June is Beer Day Britain which sounds good but I’ll leave that one to Rich!!Happy June!Sam, Fillarup Holmes Chapel

36Katy meets... A Lench Building GroupAdrian speaks of this accomplishment with immense pride, and rightfully so. In fact, the very first apprentice has ascended to Build Director within the firm.Adrian also holds a strong commitment to supporting the local community and charities. The Lench family, unfortunately, experienced the loss of a team member to prostate cancer recently, and they have plans to organise fundraising events in memory of their colleague. Additionally, they have been longstanding supporters of the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young and proudly sponsor local young sports teams and individuals.Once TTL Building and Maintenance kickstart the construction of your new extension or development, they have a team of over 300 trusted contractors and skilled in-house staff, including bricklayers, joiners, plumbers, electricians, and more. This means they have all bases covered in a single journey, from preparing the ground to adding those perfect finishing touches. With their expertise spanning a wide range of projects, including new builds, extensions, barn conversions, and turnkey endeavors, they bring a wealth of experience to the table. Moreover, A Lench Building Contractors boasts an in-house buyer, enabling them to procure materials and secure the best prices available. Throughout the entire project, Chris diligently oversees project management and keeps a watchful eye on costs, ensuring it stays within budget and on schedule. This seamless communication between Chris and the builder is a significant advantage, as it eliminates any obstacles and ensures a smooth workflow. On a personal level, from my initial impression of both Chris and Adrian, it is evident that they are two exceptionally hardworking and compassionate individuals. Their dedication shines through when they discuss their involvement in the community and their commitment to nurturing apprentices. Adrian takes great pride in giving me a tour of their office, introducing me to the entire staff. He proudly showcases their collection of building awards and heartfelt thank-you certificates from charities they have supported, while he admits that recognition is not their motivation for supporting charities, their primary goal is to provide as much help as they can. As a family-oriented man, Adrian strongly believes in the importance of training and developing his team. They regularly organise team-building days to foster strong relationships within the business, and from the moment new staff members join, he encourages empowerment and growth.Having met Chris and Adrian, I now have a comprehensive understanding of the collaborative structure of A Lench Building Contractors, with their partnership with Wild Goose Architecture and TTL Building Contractors and Maintenance. This partnership allows them to harness the expertise and resources of a larger company while maintaining a personalised approach and genuine understanding of the significance your home holds for you. With their combined strength, they are equipped to provide exceptional service. Once your dream home is completed, it becomes a canvas for countless new life stories, creating cherished memories for years to come. KatyYOUR home is probably the biggest purchase you will ever make. It is the place where families grow, and life stories are made. Therefore, if you make the decision to extend and develop your property, having a designer and builder who understand how important it is to you becomes crucial.I took a quick drive to Kidsgrove to meet the team behind the Lench Building Group and get a glimpse of how they expertly guide homeowners through the exciting process of improving and extending their homes.A Lench Building Contractors is a prominent business that offers its services to large-scale home and commercial builders. Along with them, they work in tandem with TTL Building and Maintenance LTD and Wild Goose Architecture, who specialise in crafting breath taking residential properties. The journey of improving your home has two main parts, and the beauty of working with TTL and Wild Goose is that they collaborate throughout the entire process. It typically starts with Chris Rye from Wild Goose Architecture, an Architectural Designer with over 30 years of experience working with well-respected firms across Cheshire and Staffordshire. He begins by discovering your dreams and aspirations for your home during a face-to-face consultation. Then, he puts together some initial ideas, timelines, and, most importantly, works within your budget. Once you’re satisfied and have appointed him, he digs deeper with site surveys and creates a virtual 3D model to help you envision what your new home will look like. Chris ensures that the client’s budget and expectations are always at the top of his mind, and having Adrian Lench from TTL nearby is a massive bonus, as he can provide cost estimates for everything from groundworks to a complete bespoke fit out where required.Next, Chris will assess whether the proposed build requires planning permission or falls within permitted development guidelines. If planning permission is necessary, he will handle all the required documentation and prepare detailed drawings. He will then submit them and diligently follow through until approval is successfully obtained.Once everything is set to go, all the building works are entrusted to TTL. The mastermind behind TTL is Adrian Lench, a seasoned and skilled builder. Adrian, along with his wife Jackie, founded A Lench Building Contractors in 1987. His journey began as a bricklayer at the age of 16, which is why he places great importance on training and nurturing young individuals in the profession. Throughout the years, they have proudly employed numerous apprentices across their entire business, many of whom have gone on to establish long and prosperous careers.

That is why the new Margaret Kettle trophy will be presented on Rose Day 24 June to the adult with the best fancy dress costume. The winner will be either an adult who walks in the procession from Booth Bed Lane to the school field or someone on one of the adult floats. The competition will be judged as the procession passes the Crown by Margaret’s granddaughter Leyla Woodward who has also provided the new trophy.Chair of Rose Day Christina Burgess said: “Each year people would eagerly await to see who Margaret was dressed up as so it is only fitting that the new trophy will be presented to the best adult fancy dress.“At one time a lot of people would dress up for the day and so we hope that tradition will be revived in memory of Margaret who was a very special person and who will be sadly missed on Rose Day.”This year’s event will be enhanced by the visit of pupils and staff from Elizabethfontein School in South Africa. This is the sixth time since 2005 that pupils from Elizabethfontein, which is twinned with Goostrey Community Primary School, have taken part in our Rose Day celebrations. The children, who are staying with families in the village, will also be taking part in lessons at Goostrey school and demonstrating crafts, sharing South African playground games and dancing. The school has won numerous dancing competitions throughout the Western Cape and the children will be performing during the afternoon. The processions, which involves more than 200 children on floats and in walking groups, sets off from Booth Bed Lane at 1pm and will arrive at the school field at approximately 1.45pm.There this year’s Rose Queen, Ella Wilford will be crowned during the traditional ceremony by last year’s Queen Lucy Boardman.Ella,13, attends Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, and has taken part in Rose Day every year since she was a little girl and has always wanted to be the Rose Queen. As she explained: “I have been in every Rose Day that I could and I have enjoyed them all. I am really looking forward to the day and representing Goostrey at the other Rose Day events around the area.”Ella’s two attendants on the big day will be Eleanor Stutfield, aged 12, who attends The Grange School, and Nancy Napier,13, from Knutsford, who is a pupil at King’s School in Macclesfield. The 2023 Rose Bud Queen is Phoebe Sharman who will be accompanied by her lady in waiting, Isabelle Spencer. 56AS you read this, we’ll have just about gotten over what has felt like a month of holidays! The standout for me was the coming together of the village on the Coronation weekend, the sun was out, (along with pretty much everyone!), the atmosphere was buzzing with laughter, and there were soooo many smiles. Holmes Chapel was a gorgeous place to be that afternoon. As we now approach the warmer temperatures and longer nights of summer, here are a couple of frozen cocktail recipes that will be sure to make your evenings go by with a bang. Hopefully you’ve got a decent blender, but if not don’t panic, you can buy crushed ice in most supermarkets or you could use ice cream, or frozen coconut milk as a substitution! A little tip: put your glass in the freezer for 30mins before you serve! The traditional Pina Colada is one of the simplest cocktails to make, and a frozen one is no different. Blend 2 shots white rum, 1.5 shots pineapple juice (or 5 chunks of fresh pineapple), 1.5 shots of coconut cream with a cup of ice and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you swap the rum for brandy you’ll make yourself a kappa colada! For all you mocha lovers, how does a Frozen Mudslide grab you!? Put 2 shots of vodka, 3 of Baileys, 3 of Kahlua, 4-6 scoops of vanilla ice cream, a good squirt of chocolate syrup (the stuff for ice cream is great), in a blender with 15 big ice cubes and blitz. If it’s looking a bit runny, stick it back in the freezer for 10mins to firm up. Take your glass, drizzle some syrup around inside, pour and top with squirty cream and crushed flake for a bit of extra naughtiness.Lastly for this issue, if you’ll permit me, I’m going to do a little self promotion… ish. The 10th of June will see the villages favourite DPD driver, Gaz, host the charity auction and raffle night forerunner for his 72 holes of golf at the end of the month. He and a couple of his mates raised nearly £10,000 for Macmillan the last time they did this, and are again hoping to raise another decent amount for this wonderful charity. As many of you know, Macmillan hold a very, very dear place in my heart, so along with a number of one-off’s for the auction, we’ll be hosting the evening at the Bottle Bank. There’ll be food vendors, music, and some quite frankly amazing things to either bid on or chance your luck in the raffle. If you can, please come down to the bar on the 10th, with your friends and families for an afternoon and evening of fun in aid of such a worthy cause.Rich, The Beer Emporium Bottle BankFrom the bar, by Rich

6060HC Partnership news...AS I sit down to write this short article as the new Chairman of Holmes Chapel Partnership, I feel there is a need to apologise for the comments made on the partnership page last month. My thoughts are with Les Gilbert’s family and friends at this time, on his untimely passing. Taking over as the new chair of the Partnership somehow feels like life repeating itself. Just over 20 years ago as the Chief Executive of the South East Cheshire Enterprise (SECE), I was tasked by Congleton Borough Council to outline the need for Partnerships in a bid to regional government for funds to support the towns in our borough, the successful outcome of which was the formation of Congleton, Sandbach and Alsager Partnerships. Our own Holmes Chapel Partnership was formed some years later, supported by the success of these Partnerships but funded by the new unitary authority Cheshire East Council (CEC). Over the last 10 years we received a grant of £8,000 per year from CEC, but sadly with increasing demands on their own budgets, as the Country struggles to get back to some form of normality post Covid, this means the funding of Partnership’s from Cheshire East became a bridge too far. I start my Chairmanship with a clear remit to balance the books, which means there is a need to replace our core funding. But we will also need to review our own activities to ensure that we focus on activities that our village needs, to make Holmes Chapel an even better place to live, work and play. In this regard, I am pleased to confirm that the Partnership will continue to organise the Christmas Fair, supported now with an increased grant of £3,000 from Holmes Chapel Parish Council. We are also very firmly committed to the continuation of the Santa Sleigh runs, that delight young and old across Holmes Chapel, Goostrey, Cranage and Brereton, but at the same time provide much needed additional income, to the 9 organisations that help us to run the sleigh runs each year. In a further attempt to reduce costs and attract gift aid we are now looking to move the Partnership to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) status over the next few months, so the possibility of texting a donation to our sleigh teams can become a reality. And finally, it would be remiss of me not to mention the fantastic celebrations experienced in Holmes Chapel for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Unlike the coronation day itself, the weather was kind to us, and it was a joy again to see the centre of our village filled with several generations of happy smiling face, creating memories for us all to treasure.Peter Whiers, Chairmaninfo@hcpartnership.org.ukwww.hcpartnership.org.uk /HolmesChapelPartnership

Many people are even reluctant to show their podiatrist, and think their feet are the worst we have ever seen!Fear not, we have seen so many feet we are completely unphased and have pretty much seen it all. We just want to help you.One of the most common embarrassing foot problems we see is Tinea Pedis, a foot infection due to a dermatophyte fungus, otherwise known as Athletes foot. This condition affects approximately 20% of the general population and many people are unaware they have it.3 common presentations of Tinea Pedis are:• Itchy sores or rash between the toes• Dry, flaky skin to the soles and sides of the feet• Small blisters, usually around the inner arch of the footThis condition is usually easy to treat with the correct products, but often recurs. The fungus thrives in warm, dark moist conditions so meticulous drying of the feet, wearing absorbent socks, avoiding occlusive footwear and rotating shoes to allow them to dry out between wear can help prevent recurrences. Fungal spores survive normal wash temperatures so wash socks, towels, and underwear on a 60-degree minimum wash. Use an antifungal spray such as Daktarin inside shoes once a week.Unfortunately, skin infection can eventually spread to toenails if left unchecked. A fungal toenail is much trickier to treat. The source of infection is usually underneath the nail in the nailbed. Topical treatments are applied to the nail surface and tend not to get through the nail. A podiatrist can use an electric file to prepare the nail for a more effective treatment. If topical treatments are unsuccessful, oral antifungal tablets can be prescribed by a GP.If a nail is damaged and unsightly whether due to nail trauma, nail surgery or fungal infection, cosmetic podiatry treatments can temporarily improve appearance and reduce embarrassment. Toenail reconstruction is a popular cosmetic procedure performed by a podiatrist. A resin product is applied in layers and light cured to correct and restore a damaged toenail. It lasts around 6 to 8 weeks and is popular during the holiday season. For a general foot MOT to ‘tidy up’ the feet a routine podiatry appointment will address skin and nail concerns. A more intensive foot conditioning treatment is a ‘medical pedicure’ which combines a professional Podiatry treatment with a cosmetic pedicure including a moisturising foot mask and optional toenail polish.Anna & Andrew AyresAyres Health

This brings the surgery in line with other practices here in Cheshire East, and is aimed at easing the significant rush for appointments at 8am. By moving completely to the online triage system used last year, it will ensure that patients can be seen by the right person within the appropriate clinical timescale. Non-urgent enquiries for medication, sick-notes, or other administrative enquiries will also be dealt with in the right manner through the online form.Patients will be able to continue to request appointments with practice nurses, phlebotomy, and health care assistants by phoning or coming to reception, however for any other appointments, these will need to be requested through the AccuRx triage system. A link will be available on the Health Centre website holmeschapelhealthcentre.co.uk.Please do not worry if you do not have online access. If you cannot get to a computer, phone the surgery reception and a member of the team will fill it in for you. They will not be able to bypass this system, so only use this system if you are completely unable to fill in the online form. If you are able to complete it yourself online, or have someone else do it for you, then doing this will be quicker for you.The system will be used for both routine and urgent appointment requests and all will be triaged on the same day by a member of the clinical team. The online system will be open from 8am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday. If you have an urgent issue beyond 3pm you will need to phone reception when a member of the team will take details and pass these to the triaging clinician who will decide if further action that day is required, such as a face-to-face or telephone appointment with either a GP, or any of the other trained medical staff. Please do not demand your appointment request is dealt with in any other way, as the team at the other end of the line are not permitted to do this. This system works very well in other areas of East Cheshire, such as Wilmslow and Macclesfield, and there is no reason it will not work here. Lastly, please please please remember be kind to the reception team as they take you through the questions.Rich JepsonHolmes Chapel Health Centre PPG Patient Participation Group Your Local, Professional Printing Service in Holmes Chapel ● Business & Retail Service ● Leaflets, Posters, Banners ● Booklets, Cards & more... ● Photocopying & Binding 5 Church Walk, Holmes Chapel CW4 7AZ Tel: 01477 549682 www.theprintroomcw4.co.uk THE PRINT ROOM

From hilarious conversations between comedians to true crime stories and even self-help advice, there are podcasts available on just about every subject under the sun. Including, of course, business! Although there are countless shows which focus on business advice, top tips and discussions about the perks and pitfalls of running a company, there’s another side of the coin when it comes to business podcasting opportunities. If you want to help amplify your own brand’s voice, launching a podcast is one of the most engaging ways to be heard in 2023.So, what could a podcast do for your business? It’s an ideal chance to help bring your products and services to life by offering additional valuable content and information to your customers – and future customers! We think it’s useful to look at a podcast as an additional branch of your online presence, and there are a million ways you can approach creating your show depending on exactly what you’d like to achieve.Let’s take a business like an independent gym, for example. These episodes can be shared with prospective clients, promoted across social media and used to provide extra motivation to existing gym members. If the episodes are well received, there are endless options for get creative and taking the podcast to the next level – the audio world is your oyster. 72Coronation Weekend WHAT a fantastic weekend of celebration was had here in Holmes Chapel to celebrate His Majesty The King’s Coronation! On Sunday 7th May, the village centre was closed to traffic to allow residents to come together for the Big Lunch. It was wonderful to see so many people out and about enjoying one another’s company and celebrating this historic occasion. The Parish Council, alongside the Partnership, organised this event for our residents to enjoy and we are so grateful for everyone who attended and made this event such a huge success. The Mereside Brass Band was excellent and really added atmosphere to the occasion. Magician Ian Davis wondered among the crowds dazzling them with magic tricks and balloon artist Alan Russell brightened up the day with his brilliant balloon designs! Children were thrilled to have their faces painted by Sarah. It was truly wonderful to see the village so full of residents having fun and enjoying celebrating this historic occasion. These events don’t just happen by chance. They take a lot of hard work behind the scenes, both on the day and in the months leading up to them. Our grateful thanks go firstly to the Partnership, who worked with the Parish Council to organise this event and who helped out on the actual day. Thanks must also go to our volunteers – we could not have managed this day with you! Thank you for giving up your Sunday afternoon to support this remarkable occasion. Coronation Weekend WHAT a fantastic weekend of celebration was had here in Holmes Chapel to celebrate His Majesty The King’s Coronation! We would also like to thank the fire station for providing first aid support and the two volunteer police officers.
